Bernardo “Benny” Freire
“I began my surfing journey in the summer of 2004 at Praia do Amado in Algarve. Shortly after, I joined Surf Academy under the mentorship of coaches Pedro Monteiro and João de Macedo. Throughout the years, I competed in various competitions, clinching victories in regional and national events such as the Portuguese Cup and National Pro Junior. My love for surfing has taken me to renowned waves like Carcavelos, Coxos, Crazy Left, Supertubos and Paúl do Mar, as well as international destinations like Senegal, North Peru, Spain, France, Morocco and California.
Transitioning from competition, I ventured into surf videography, which evolved into a professional endeavor. As an independent surf instructor, I've honed my coaching skills, working with diverse groups and individuals, from beginners to advanced athletes. From leading holiday camps to coaching internationally, my journey has been dynamic, encompassing roles in surf schools and freelance coaching across Portugal and France.
Currently, I'm dedicated to private surf coaching and guiding in the Lisbon area while pursuing the creation of more levels for my illustrated surfing manual. My journey reflects a passion for surfing and a commitment to sharing knowledge, enhancing skills, and fostering a love for the nature among enthusiasts of all levels.”
